Leader raises funds in aid of Breast Care Unit
More than £2,000 has been raised for the Peony Suite at Prince Philip Hospital’s Breast Care Unit at a charity golf day hosted by the Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council.
Cllr Emlyn Dole said he was delighted with the sum, which he is donating to a cause close to his heart.
The event was held at the Ashburnham Golf Club, Pembrey, on Friday (October 5), where 20 teams played and helped raise money for the cause.
Welsh international rugby union referee Nigel Owens MBE was the guest auctioneer at the event, getting bids on a range of prizes including overnight stays and spa treatments at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli, and St Brides Spa Hotel, Saundersfoot; four-ball golf days at the Celtic Manor Hotel and Ashburnham Golf Club; food hamper, meat and whiskey; and one of his own signed referee jerseys.
“It was a fantastic event, the weather was perfect, the course was superb and we had some fantastic prizes available,” said Cllr Dole. “All funds raised during the event are going towards the Peony Suite, at the Breast Care Unit Prince Philip Hospital, a charity very close to my heart and to whom I owe a great personal debt of gratitude for the care and support they gave to my wife Gwenda when she faced her own fight with breast cancer.
“I would like to thank all the teams that took part and everyone who supported the event, it really was a great day and is something I hope we can do again.”
