Youth council’s work recognised

Carmarthenshire Youth Council has been presented with three finalist awards.

The council for Outstanding Youth Work Project: Promoting Young People’s Rights, Amber Treharne, aged 16 for Outstanding Individual: Making a Difference and Sarah Powell for Outstanding Individual: Outstanding Youth Worker. Sarah also works for Carmarthenshire County Council.

Carmarthenshire Youth Council (CYC) acts as a voice by representing the views and opinions of all young people in the county.

CYC is supported by Carmarthenshire County Council who put forward nominations for the Youth Work Excellence Awards.

Its main aim is to bring about positive change, development and creates opportunities for young people to become involved in decision making/democratic processes within the authority, national and international level.

Young people are 11-25 years old are elected on to the CYC through schools, colleges, youth clubs, voluntary youth groups, youth action groups, special interest groups, disability groups, other specialist or minority formal and informal groups.

Cllr Glynog Davies, executive board member for education and children’s services, said: “I’m delighted for the youth council who do some fantastic work and it’s great to see them being recognised for it.”
