Tap and take a seat with new contactless bus travel

Travel on public service buses has become a lot easier with the introduction of contactless payments on almost all Carmarthenshire routes.

Carmarthenshire County Council, working with public transport providers, has invested in technology to allow people to board and travel without having to carry cash.

Now, anyone travelling can tap and take a seat, with the contactless system allowing tickets up to the value of £30 to be purchased in one transaction.

It is all part of the effort to make travelling on public transport easier and more appealing.

As well as the new contactless technology, passengers can download and use apps to check timetables and get up-to-the-minute travel information.

Key bus stops are also being upgraded with digital service information displays.

Stephen Pilliner, Head of Transport and Engineering, said: “We’re pleased to see new technology being put in to use to make travelling on public transport more convenient for everyone.

“The contactless payment option means no-one needs to be cut short with change. Now, people can simply jump on-board and buy from the driver with a single tap of a contactless card. A wide range of tickets are available to meet different travel requirements from single, return and weekly tickets, providing great value for money.”
