Information on shielding for ‘extremely vulnerable’ people
People with serious underlying health conditions, which put them at very high risk of becoming seriously ill from coronavirus (COVID-19) are being advised to follow “shielding” measures to keep them safe.
Everyone in the extremely vulnerable category will have received a letter from the Chief Medical Officer for Wales Dr Frank Atherton, setting out the steps you should take to protect your health. These are known as “shielding” measures.
Residents in Carmarthenshire will also receive a letter from the council with local information and advice. We have been working hard to put arrangements in place to make sure support is available locally for people who are shielding.
The NHS has worked very hard on this list to check it contains the names of those people who are in the extremely vulnerable category. GPs have also been provided with a list of the people who have been sent letters to check against their patient lists. They will contact any additional high-risk people who may not have been identified to ensure they also receive the advice in the letters from the Chief Medical Officer.
This means staying at home until at least June 15 2020, and reducing contact with other people as far as possible to reduce the risk of being exposed to coronavirus.
You may already have family, friends or neighbours that are helping you by doing your food shopping or collecting any medicines you may need. There are also a number of community groups offering support, just please remember not to let anyone enter your home at any time and they must keep at least two metres away from you.
If you do not have anyone that can help, then we are here to make sure you get all the support you need. We can arrange for food parcels to be delivered directly to your doorstep, and we are working with community pharmacies to help supply and organise delivery of medicines where required.
We are also in touch with a number of voluntary groups who can provide care and support for those who might be feeling very isolated.
Our telephone lines are open seven days a week between 8.30am and 6pm, please call 01267 234567. You can also email us at email@example.com with your telephone number if you prefer and we will contact you as soon as possible.
