Have your say on the future of Carmarthenshire’s towns
7 hours ago

Carmarthenshire County Council is launching a public consultation on placemaking plans for its three Primary Towns Ammanford, Carmarthen, and Llanelli, and is inviting residents, businesses, and visitors to attend events and share their views. This consultation builds on the foundations established in previous masterplans.
The Ammanford, Carmarthen, and Llanelli, masterplans were all commissioned in direct response to COVID-19. Each reviewed existing regeneration activity and set strategies to support recovery and long-term growth, focusing on strengthening distinctiveness, diversifying uses, improving connections, and backing local businesses. Significant works have been undertaken following the development of these plans across the three Primary Towns. These masterplans serve as context for the new placemaking plans, ensuring that fresh ideas reflect past lessons while setting out clear action for each town’s future.
The Council is holding in-person drop-in sessions in each town where the community can learn about the placemaking process and provide valuable input:
- Carmarthen – 22 September and 27 October at St Peter's Civic Hall, Carmarthen
- Ammanford – 23 September and 28 October at Pensioners Hall, Ammanford
- Llanelli – 24 September and 29 October at 1 Stepney Precinct, Llanelli
If you can’t make any of the drop in sessions you will still be able to have your say online via the Council’s consultation webpage from 22 September .
Help ensure that Ammanford, Carmarthen, and Llanelli continue to evolve as lively, welcoming, and well-connected places for everyone.
Cllr Hazel Evans, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture & Tourism, said:
“These placemaking plans will only succeed if they’re driven by the communities they affect. Whether you've been involved before through the recovery masterplans or are contributing for the first time, your insights are vital. Please come along to the events or share your thoughts online and help us shape vibrant, resilient town centres that reflect Carmarthenshire’s unique strengths.”
Participants will be able to discuss a wide range of topics, such as:
- Creating vibrant, accessible, and mixed-use town centres
- Enhancing walking, cycling, and public transport connections
- Supporting local businesses and new start-ups
- Revitalising public spaces and cultural assets
- Ensuring long-term sustainability and community-led development
