Carmarthenshire County Council has officially opened the Brianne Welsh Language Immersion Centre at Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, Llandeilo - its second dedicated immersion facility in the county. Building on the success of Canolfan Gwên, the new centre marks another major step in expanding Welsh language learning opportunities for children
The new centre will offer intensive Welsh language immersion for primary-aged pupils who are new to Welsh-medium education. It will help learners build confidence and fluency in Welsh in a nurturing, inclusive environment, enabling them to access and thrive in Welsh-medium schools. Carmarthenshire County Council is working in partnership with Ysgol Bro Dinefwr to bring this new provision to the community and strengthen local opportunities for Welsh language learning.
This development is a step forward in advancing the aims of the county’s Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP). By widening access to Welsh-medium education, the centre will play a key role in helping families choose a bilingual future for their children.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Glynog Davies, said:
The launch of the Brianne Immersion Centre is an important milestone in our wider ambition to expand Welsh-medium education across Carmarthenshire. Supporting children to acquire Welsh early, confidently and in the right environment is essential if we are to grow the use of the language and achieve the goals set out in our Welsh in Education Strategic Plan.
This centre demonstrates our long-term commitment to building a bilingual future and strengthening the role of the Welsh language in the life of our communities.”
