Plans for new Heol Goffa School take major step forward following Cabinet approval
2 days ago
Carmarthenshire Council’s Cabinet has agreed to commence a formal consultation period to re-locate Ysgol Heol Goffa in Llanelli and increase capacity at the school to 150 pupils.
Agreed at its Cabinet meeting on Monday 1 June 2026, this decision follows the previous Cabinet decision to develop a new school to increase capacity and meet the current projected demand.
The new school will increase provision for pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound learning difficulties (PMLD) in the Llanelli area. Additional work is already underway to meet the demand for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) pupils in Llanelli by alternative means.
The Cabinet’s decision follows an independent review of specialist education in the Llanelli area and consultation with the Heol Goffa school community following the review being published.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Glynog Davies, said:
Plans to develop a new 150 pupil Heol Goffa School have taken a major step forward today.
This follows a thorough review process and consultation with pupils, teachers, parents and governors at Heol Goffa which has enabled us to develop a sustainable way forward.
We will now progress towards a consultation period, which gives the school community an opportunity to have their say on this decision.”
