Residents and visitors are invited to discover the beauty, history and wildlife of the Tywi Valley this autumn as the Tywi Valley Path Festival of Walks launches with a programme of guided experiences running from 16 September to 4 October.

Organised by Carmarthenshire County Council's Tourism Development Team, the festival is the latest initiative to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the recently completed Tywi Valley Path, which was officially opened in May. The two-week programme of guided walks will showcase the route's stunning landscapes, rich heritage and diverse wildlife while promoting the path as a key recreational and tourism asset for the county.

Supported by Walters Group, who were contracted to install the landmark bridges across the Rivers Tywi and Cothi, which have improved access and connectivity along the route, the festival offers a unique opportunity to explore the Tywi Valley Path between Carmarthen and Llandeilo.

Designed for walkers of all abilities and interests, the programme includes wildlife experiences, creative walking workshops, heritage tours and Nordic walking sessions, led by expert guides and local organisations.

Programme highlights include:

  • 16 September - West Wales Wild Watch Session (Nantgaredig)
  • 17 September - Weave and Walk with Quiet Walks (Llandeilo)
  • 20 September - Castles and Gardens Walk with Karsten Minter
  • 21 & 27 September - Nordic Walking with Nordic Cymru
  • 26 September - A Tale of Two Rivers
  • 4 October - Guided Walk of Golden Grove Parkland

The Tywi Valley Path is one of Carmarthenshire's most treasured walking routes, passing through beautiful countryside, riverside landscapes, historic landmarks and important wildlife habitats.

Carmarthenshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism, Cllr Hazel Evans, said:

The Tywi Valley Path Festival of Walks is a wonderful opportunity to discover one of Carmarthenshire's most scenic walking routes and the heritage, wildlife and stories that make it so special. We're delighted to offer a varied programme for all abilities and are grateful to Walters Group for supporting the festival and helping improve access along the route through the construction of the landmark bridges."
