An Online Ambassador Scheme has been launched by Carmarthenshire County Council that provides an online training opportunity to enhance your knowledge of the tourism opportunities that our county has to offer. From its stunning landscapes and outdoor adventures to its vibrant culture and rich heritage, Carmarthenshire has something to offer for everyone and, as an ambassador, you will be able to provide expert advice to tourists and visitors to the county or local residents looking for a fun day out.

The Carmarthenshire Ambassador Scheme offers a wide range of online training modules, on a variety of themes, and a host of online resources. Enrolling to become a Carmarthenshire ambassador is simple, easy and a great opportunity to learn something new.

It’s free and open to everyone. From residents, volunteers and local community groups to accommodation and attraction providers to those working front of house in a shop or café. Students, traffic wardens, tour guides and event organisers are also encouraged to become ambassadors and learn more about the unique characteristics of our area.

There are 3 levels of accreditation – bronze, silver and gold, depending on the number of modules completed. Rewards, including certificates, will be sent to everyone who completes these levels.

Carmarthenshire, Flintshire, Anglesey and Ceredigion are the latest destinations to join Denbighshire in offering the online ambassador course in Wales.

Ambassadors are actively encouraged to sign up to multiple courses to extend their learning about Carmarthenshire and be part of a wider community.

Amongst the first people to enrol to the online Carmarthenshire ambassador scheme is George Reid, Chair of the South West Wales Tourism Forum and owner of Glangwili Mansion. On completing his bronze level accreditation, George commented that:

“As someone who has lived and operated a tourism business in Carmarthenshire for over 20 years, I was amazed at the sheer volume of information, anecdotes and tales of which I was unaware. The course is comprehensive and well written with a fabulous blend of knowledge, facts and humour.”

Carmarthenshire Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism, Cllr Gareth John, said:

“Carmarthenshire is a county full of hidden gems just waiting to be discovered which is why we are seeking as many people as possible to help us raise awareness of what our area has to offer and help towards realising its great potential. 

“Whether you work in tourism, hospitality or just wish to learn more about the area becoming an ambassador is a great way to deepen your knowledge and appreciation of our great county. 

“Carmarthenshire’s tourism sector has performed strongly following the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions with over 2.3 million visitors adding £412 million to the local economy. if we can encourage these visitors to visit even more of our coast, countryside, historic sites, active adventures and amazing range of food and drink outlets, the more they will want to stay, enjoy, spend, return and recommend to others.  

“Whilst the increasing cost of living may make people think twice about how they will spend their precious time off this year, there is a huge range of free and accessible leisure opportunities for families, friends and couples to take advantage of throughout the County. 

“As an ambassador for Carmarthenshire, you will play a key role in promoting this.”
