Statement on Brynderwen Care Home

It is with great sadness that the operators of Brynderwen Care Home, Llangynnor, have formally notified Carmarthenshire County Council of their intention to close the care home. The care home is planned to close on the 28 April 2024.

The County Council is working closely with the care home manager to ensure that all residents are supported through this difficult time and has concentrated the efforts of a dedicated team of Social Workers to support the residents to find new homes.

The Council would like to thank the staff within Brynderwen Care Home for their ongoing commitment to ensuring that residents continue to receive quality care and are supported during this difficult time.

Cllr. Jane Tremlett, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Services, Carmarthenshire County Council said:

Once we were alerted by the owners of their intention to close the home, our immediate priority was to the welfare of the residents at Brynderwen Care Home. We have set up a team who will oversee the closure and support the care home during this difficult period.

This is also a very difficult situation for the families and next of kin of the residents and we are currently supporting them to find suitable new homes for their loved ones.

On behalf of the Council, I would like to express my gratitude to the staff at Brynderwen Care Home for their invaluable work at the care home and for the support that they have given to residents during this sensitive time."

It is with huge regret that the decision has been made to cease operating as a care home. This decision has been an extremely difficult one to reach, however, as many people may be aware, the care sector is under huge pressures due to various factors within the industry.

Brynderwen is a beautiful building, in a beautiful setting and I have every intention of retaining it. I am aware that there has been a lot of speculation regarding the future use of the building. A planning application has been submitted for change of use, to a boutique hotel and restaurant which will also provide a wedding venue in the area. I hope to provide a high standard of service to the community.
