Wales Tourism Week

Carmarthenshire Tourism Ambassador Scheme is urging people with training and knowledge about what Carmarthenshire has to offer, to get involved and become an Ambassador during Wales Tourism Week.

Over 400 people have registered on the online scheme and to celebrate Wales Tourism Week, which runs between 15 -19 July 2024, we have launched the sustainable Carmarthenshire module which is the latest to be released on the platform allowing individuals to become the first Gold ambassadors. We will continue to expand and introduce new modules over the next few months.

Enrolling to become a Wales Ambassador is a great opportunity to learn something new this month. Continuous learning can have a positive impact on people’s lives; whether you’re looking to learn more about the area, improve job prospects or meet new people, becoming an Ambassador is a great way to deepen your appreciation of a place.

Wales Tourism Week is an initiative led by the Wales Tourism Alliance (WTA) to raise awareness of the issues impacting our industry, but it is also a time to showcase the quality of our offer, to learn about our successes and challenges and to celebrate one of our key industries in Wales.

The County Council also plans to host a Celebration event for the County’s first Carmarthenshire Tourism Ambassadors during Adult learners’ week (9–15 September). The event, hosted by Cllr Hazel Evans, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism is to be held in County Hall, Carmarthen, where the successful participants will be officially awarded.

Cllr Hazel Evans commented:

We are delighted to see the number of people who have enjoyed progressing through the modules and quizzes to learn about Carmarthenshire’s history, culture, food & drink, legends, activities and hidden gems waiting to be discovered. It is fantastic that we can now award 3 levels – Gold, Silver and Bronze Tourism Ambassadors. The County is hugely proud of what you have achieved and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for leading the way. We are incredibly grateful to the range of people and businesses that have signed up to the scheme and are looking forward to celebrating the contributions they are making to the tourism industry at the event in September. We are delighted to have invested in people and businesses who are truly passionate about this county and are helping us promote what it has to offer to other people in Carmarthenshire and to our visitors. You are making a difference throughout our communities.

Jeremy John from Gwili Railway, Carmarthen, added:

With so many visitors from all over the UK it was a pleasure to see their faces when you tell them what interesting places there are to visit and all within a reasonable distance. We are so lucky in Carmarthenshire that whatever the weather there is always a place to visit whether for families or just couples and to suit their budgets. I always think that knowledge equals confidence and the Ambassador scheme certainly provides the knowledge and confidence to give our visitors the best possible experience.

Paul Raven from Tea Traders in Carmarthen added:

Our tea shop is located in the centre of Carmarthen. We welcome visitors to the town everyday. Completing the Ambassador programme is easy. I love that the bite-sized modules can be completed online in my own time. It's a fantastic resource and a brilliant way to help me learn more about Carmarthenshire and Wales. I would recommend the programme to any local businesses who are keen to help visitors discover more about Wales and our wonderful County has to offer.
