Visit Carmarthenshire’s Play Parks this summer!

Getting outdoors this summer is what the school holidays are all about- weather permitting!

Funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund [UKSPF] is helping to improve play areas and equipment throughout Carmarthenshire. The Sustainable Communities SPF programme has been working alongside communities from around the County to enhance and redevelop play areas for local families to enjoy during the summer holidays and beyond.

One example of this is the creation of a new play area in the small rural village of Llanboidy. After extensive consultation with the community, it was agreed that a new play park was of the highest importance to the village. Work set about to develop the park, with support from residents with previous experience in the field, an application was made to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Support from the community was huge, agreeing to install the equipment themselves, thus reducing costs and increasing the sense of local ownership.

Throughout the installation process, locals were invited to help, through laying down grass mats, cutting grass and installing the play equipment. Now work has finished, the park is open to the public. A fantastic community effort!

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Culture, Leisure and Tourism, Cllr Hazel Evans commented:

Funding though the UK Shared Prosperity Fund has allowed the Council to make much needed changes in our County. Working closely with our communities is vital to this work, listening to what local people want is key to making successful improvements, commitment and dedication demonstrated by communities has been commendable, creating wonderful new opportunities for children to enjoy the freedom of play.
