Cabinet approves plans to partner with a reputable third party operator to secure Burry Port Harbour’s future

Following a meeting of its Cabinet on Monday, 14 October 2024, Carmarthenshire County Council has agreed to progress with developing its preferred option, whereby the Authority partners with a reputable third-party operator to develop and sustain Burry Port Harbour.

The County Council have held discussions with a potential partner regarding future arrangements.

Burry Port Harbour remains in administration and dialogue is ongoing to bring this to a conclusion, as soon as is legally possible, and to return the harbour under Carmarthenshire County Council’s control.

In a joint statement, the County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism - Cllr Hazel Evans and Cabinet Member for Resources, Cllr Alun Lenny said:

The County Council has a legal duty both as harbour authority and as the owner of the harbour to take reasonable steps to ensure that Burry Port Harbour can be used safely.
We are, therefore, pleased to be able to update stakeholders and the local community that Carmarthenshire County Council are in discussions with a reputable and trusted organisation to secure the long-term future of the Harbour.”
