100% Sir Gâr pop-ups and local markets are the perfect place to shop this Christmas
2 days ago
After a successful first week, there’s still a chance to shop locally and sustainably by visiting the 100% Sir Gâr Christmas pop-up shops this December, as well as the county’s indoor markets in Llanelli and Carmarthen and outdoor markets in Carmarthen, Llanelli and Ammanford.
In the run-up to Christmas, visitors can browse a range of artisan gifts, handmade decorations, locally sourced food and drink, crafts, fashion and more, at the 100% Sir Gâr Christmas pop-up shops, while supporting independent traders and producers from across Carmarthenshire.
The pop-ups form part of Carmarthenshire County Council’s 100% Sir Gâr programme and are part-funded by the UK Government through the Shared Prosperity Fund.
Carmarthenshire’s markets also continue to play an important role in supporting independent businesses, offering traders the chance to showcase a wide variety of goods, from fresh produce to handmade items, including cosmetics, pet supplies, fruit and veg, footwear, butchers, cheesemongers, clothing, wool and knitting supplies, barbers/hairdressers and much more. The markets also provide valued community spaces.

As part of this year’s festivities, the Council is also recognising the achievements of some of its longest-established market businesses. On 13 December, father and son Llanelli Market traders, Peter and David Beale, will mark significant milestones of 60 and 55 years of trading of their two market stalls.
Peter Beale, a familiar face to generations of shoppers, established Beale’s Linens 55 years ago. The business continues as a family enterprise, with his son David now closely involved in its operation. The family also runs The Welsh Shop in Market Precinct, offering locally inspired gifts and products that celebrate Wales’ cultural identity.
These long-standing businesses demonstrate the resilience, personal service and community spirit that characterise Carmarthenshire’s market traders.
Cllr Hazel Evans, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said:
Our markets are home to some of the county’s most cherished independent businesses. This campaign highlights their contribution to our communities while encouraging more people to experience what Carmarthenshire’s traders offer. We congratulate the Beale family on reaching 55 years in Llanelli Market, a milestone that reflects their dedication and service. With new SPF-funded marketing activity and festive opportunities ahead, we look forward to welcoming more visitors and supporting local enterprise.”
