Carmarthenshire choir shines on stage at the Royal Albert Hall

Carmarthenshire Music Service’s Côr Merched Sir Gâr took to the stage of the world-famous Royal Albert Hall on 24 November, performing to a packed audience as part of the prestigious National Music for Youth Proms.

The ensemble earned their invitation to this national celebration of young musical talent following a stellar performance at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, in July.

Conducted by Mrs Nia Clwyd, the choir brings together talented secondary school pupils from across Carmarthenshire. Their appearance in London marks another significant achievement for the Music Service, showcasing the exceptional standard of music education and performance within the county.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Director of Education, Owain Lloyd, who was at the performance and said:

The choir was outstanding. They gave a highly professional performance that captivated the audience. As ambassadors of Sir Gâr and Wales, I could not be more proud. Thank you once again for the hard work and dedication of the Music Service staff.”

Ysgol Bro Myrddin pupil, Lleucu Brooker Davies, who performed with the choir, said:

It was an amazing opportunity. The choir has worked really hard over the last few months, and the whole experience of performing at the Albert Hall was unforgettable. Thank you to everyone who made this happen.”

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Glynog Davies, said:

I am incredibly proud of Côr Merched Sir Gâr for representing Carmarthenshire on such a prestigious stage. Their dedication, talent, and professionalism are a credit to our schools and the Music Service, and they have been excellent ambassadors for our county and Wales.”
