Council continues to tackle anti-social behaviour in Council owned homes and communities

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Team provides a wide range of support to residents and communities, as well as progressing formal action to tackle anti-social behaviour throughout the county.  

The team has recently secured four closure orders (a legal order that prohibits individuals from accessing premises for a set period) to safeguard vulnerable residents and reduce serious disruption within communities. This includes protecting individuals against exploitation related to drug use, protecting vulnerable residents and stopping significant disturbances caused by a tenant and their associates in in the St Clears area, Y Fan and Granby Close (Llanelli), Llys y Felin (Kidwelly).

Carmarthenshire County Council was also granted re-possession of two Council owned homes in Granby Close, Llanelli and Maescader, Pencader due to serious anti-social behaviour and severe property damage.

In the last three months, the ASB team has also issued ten community protection warnings/notices to individuals causing nuisance to neighbours and the wider community. Breaches of these notices may result in fixed penalty notices.

As well as carrying out formal enforcement action, the Anti-Social Behaviour Team continues to support communities by holding discussions with those involved, offering mediation and advice, issuing warning letters or community protection warnings/notices and working closely with Dyfed Powys Police to undertake joint patrols in hotspot areas.

Carmarthenshire County Council aims to keep communities safe and resolve issues early through communication, support and mediation, using enforcement only when behaviour is persistent, serious or harmful.

“These results show the real impact our anti-social behaviour team is having across Carmarthenshire. By combining firm enforcement with meaningful support, they are protecting vulnerable residents and sending a clear message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”
