New eco-friendly shower block unveiled at Pembrey Country Park

Carmarthenshire County Council has unveiled a new low-carbon shower facility at the award-winning Family Caravan and Camping Park in Pembrey Country Park. The building is powered by an air-source heat pump system supplied by Baxi, supporting the Council’s efforts to reduce emissions while providing a reliable hot water supply.
The camping park, named Best Campsite in South West Wales at the 2024 South West Wales Tourism Awards, continues to invest in modern and accessible facilities. The new shower block forms part of the Council’s wider programme to enhance visitor infrastructure in an environmentally responsible way.
Welsh building regulations required the hot water system to operate with net-zero carbon emissions while meeting high standards for energy efficiency and performance. Local engineering consultants Pursey and Ball were appointed to oversee the design and delivery, working with Baxi as the selected equipment manufacturer.
The heat pump system will be supported through an ongoing maintenance plan to ensure long-term operational efficiency.
Mervyn Mayers, Director at Pursey and Ball, said: “This project was a dream from Day One. On some projects there can be issues with the client not understanding the controls, but not with this project, demonstrating that the solution is very easy to use and client friendly.
Baxi have taken heat pumps to their heart. They have brought their heating expertise and understanding of hydraulic and modern hydronic systems to their heat pump solutions, which are backed with their signature customer service and back-up support. Given the greater technical complexity associated with ASHP projects, being able to rely on the experience and support of manufacturers like Baxi will be vital to delivering optimal outcomes.”
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Decarbonisation and Sustainability, Cllr Aled Vaughan Owen, said:
“This project is a shining example of how Carmarthenshire is leading the way in delivering practical, sustainable solutions. By investing in renewable technologies at Pembrey Country Park, we are reducing carbon emissions, supporting our climate commitments, and enhancing the visitor experience at one of our most popular destinations.”
