Supporting Carmarthenshire rural residents this winter: Hwb Bach y Wlad and Bws Bach y Wlad join forces
1 day ago
Rural communities across Carmarthenshire are benefitting from the partnership between Hwb Bach y Wlad and Bws Bach y Wlad, two vital services working hand-in-hand to support rural communities across the county.
Launched in April 2024, the Bws Bach y Wlad introduced a new “village hopper” style bus service, operating in the surrounding areas of Llanybydder and Newcastle Emlyn.
The service provides a lifeline for residents in isolated communities, improving access to employment, education, healthcare and shopping. Running five days a week, the bus offers affordable travel, with free lower-price options and discounted fares for young people. A timetable is available to help passengers plan local journeys more easily across the route on the Council’s website.
Since its launch in September 2023, the Hwb Bach y Wlad has made 516 visits across Carmarthenshire, assisting with over 13,200 enquiries. More than 452 residents have already received financial and wellbeing support through the council’s Claim What’s Yours initiative.
This winter, the Hwb team is working closely with Adfer Energy and the Citizens Advice Bureau to tackle fuel poverty, ensuring households can stay warm and well during the colder months. By combining transport and community support, residents not only gain better access to essential services but also benefit from income maximisation, improved social wellbeing, and help attending vital appointments.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Leader, Cllr Linda Evans, said:
The partnership between Hwb Bach y Wlad and Bws Bach y Wlad is making a real difference to our rural communities. As winter approaches, these services are more important than ever – helping residents stay connected, supported, and warm. Carmarthenshire County Council is committed to ensuring that no one is left behind, no matter where they live."
