Council proceeds to Statutory Notice to re-configure nursery provision in Ammanford

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet has considered proposals to re-configure nursery provision in Ammanford, following a period of public consultation.
Statutory Notice will be issued on Tuesday 10 February to discontinue Ammanford Nursery School and to extend the age range at Ysgol Bro Banw and Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman from 4-11 to 3-11.
These proposals would assist in providing a more balanced education provision across Carmarthenshire, as Ammanford Nursery School is the only Council maintained nursery school in the county.
Parents, teachers, school governors and the wider school community will have the opportunity to have their say as part of the statutory notice period, once this begins.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Glynog Davies said:
The proposal to re-configure nursery education provision in Ammanford will enable the County Council to provide a more balanced provision by providing nursery education in both Ysgol Bro Banw and Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman.”
These proposals follow a decision by the Council’s Cabinet in March 2024 to remove the “Rising 4s” policy from 1 September 2025, with children instead starting full-time education at the beginning of the term following their fourth birthday.
