Warm Spaces Programme to support Carmarthenshire residents this winter

Carmarthenshire County Council is pleased to confirm that a wide range of safe, secure and warm Spaces will be available across the county this winter, offering residents a welcoming, accessible and safe place to go during the colder months.

Through the Welsh Government's Safe, Secure and Warm Spaces Fund, local community groups have been supported to deliver warm hubs across Carmarthenshire, giving people the opportunity to stay warm, meet others, take part in activities and enjoy simple comforts such as a hot drink and a snack.  Funded initiatives will run throughout the winter period, with activities required to be completed by 16 March 2026.

Winter can be a particularly difficult time for many people, with colder weather, increased isolation and ongoing cost-of-living pressures affecting households and individuals. The Warm Spaces programme aims to help alleviate some of these pressures by providing inclusive community-based support during the harshest months of the year.

Warm hubs offer a range of activities and facilities depending on local need. These include: social and creative sessions such as crafts, reading clubs and board games, gentle physical activities including chair yoga and tai chi, cooking sessions, Welsh language classes and, at some locations, access to Wi-Fi and charging facilities.

All hubs have also received funding to provide refreshments so visitors can enjoy a hot drink and snack while attending. In addition, all funded hubs will host workshops delivered by Carmarthenshire County Council teams, including Hwb Advisory Services and Actif, providing access to advice, information and support.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Homes, Cllr Emlyn Schiavone, said:

Warm Spaces play a vital role in supporting our communities during the winter months. They are about much more than keeping warm - they offer connection, companionship and access to activities and support that can make a real difference to people’s wellbeing. We are grateful to the community groups and volunteers who are helping to deliver these welcoming spaces across Carmarthenshire, and we would encourage residents to make use of them this winter.”
