Carmarthenshire County Council’s work to introduce AI tools across council services has received national recognition, as Georgia Sweet, Digital Transformation Project Officer within the Council’s Digital Services team, was invited to take part in a major UK‑wide Microsoft event showcasing the future of artificial intelligence in the public sector.

Georgia was one of only a small number of representatives from across the UK selected to attend the Microsoft AI Tour on 24 February, where leading organisations shared how they are using Microsoft Copilot to transform ways of working, improve efficiency and support staff.

Georgia has played a central role in introducing Copilot within Carmarthenshire County Council, supporting staff through a supervised pilot programme which has already demonstrated clear benefits. Early feedback has shown improved productivity, faster customer response times and enhanced accessibility for staff who benefit from AI‑supported writing, summarising and information processing tools.

The Council’s work, alongside that of Swansea and Rhondda Cynon Taf councils, was highlighted by Microsoft as an example of good practice in digital innovation and responsible adoption of AI in local government.

Speaking about the recognition, Georgia Sweet said:

Attending the Microsoft AI Tour in London was an incredible opportunity to showcase how we’re using AI to improve services for residents in Carmarthenshire. Seeing our work highlighted on a global stage was inspiring, and it reinforced the impact that thoughtful, responsible innovation can have within our local authority and the communities we serve.”

Microsoft also featured Carmarthenshire’s work in a forthcoming UK Stories editorial piece, highlighting the council’s early adoption of AI tools to improve services and modernise internal processes.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Organisation & Workforce, Cllr Phillip Hughes, said:

We are extremely proud of Georgia and our digital team for leading the way in adopting new technology safely and responsibly. This recognition from Microsoft shows how Carmarthenshire is embracing innovation to support our staff and deliver the best possible service to residents.”

The Council will continue to develop its approach to AI, ensuring tools like Copilot are introduced in a secure, ethical and practical way that enhances – rather than replaces – the work of staff across the organisation.
