Residents invited to join Llanelli Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board

Residents, community leaders and business representatives in Llanelli are being invited to apply to join a new Neighbourhood Board that will help shape the future of their area through a £20 million, 10-year investment programme.

The Pride in Place programme in Carmarthenshire will focus on the Llanelli town area, covering parts of the Bigyn, Elli, Lliedi, Tyisha and Glanymor wards.

Following the recent appointment of Stephen Donoghue as Independent Chair, work is now underway to establish a Neighbourhood Board that will ensure the programme is community-led and delivers meaningful, long-term benefits.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure and Tourism, Cllr Hazel Evans, said:

The Pride in Place programme is a major investment in the future of Llanelli and a fantastic opportunity for local people to help shape how their communities grow and thrive over the coming years.
We want to ensure that this programme is truly community-led, and that means hearing directly from residents, businesses and organisations who know the area best.
I would encourage anyone who is passionate about Llanelli and wants to make a positive difference to put themselves forward and be part of this important work.”

Stephen Donoghue, Independent Chair of the Neighbourhood Board, said:

It is both a privilege and an honour for me to serve as Chair of the Llanelli Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board. This programme represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring about meaningful and lasting change in our communities.
I am committed to creating a Board that is representative, inclusive and firmly rooted in the community, bringing together residents, businesses, public services and voluntary organisations as equal partners.
By working together, we can shape a shared vision for Llanelli, influence investment decisions and deliver the improvements needed to create stronger, more prosperous and more confident neighbourhoods for current and future generations.”

Member of Parliament for Llanelli, Dame Nia Griffith, said:

“We want doers not talkers, people who can lead subcommittees and can galvanise and harness all the enthusiasm and good ideas that are coming forward and help us turn them into a coherent plan, and above all who are passionate about Llanelli and know that we can make so much more of our town.”

To apply, please request an application pack by emailing prideinplace@carmarthenshire.gov.uk. The deadline for applications is 12 midday on 6 July.
