Chris Rees, of Carmarthen Deli Caerfyrddin by Albert Rees has been working in the market since 1974 with his parents, Albert and Brenda Rees.
Chris had this to say about his time in Carmarthenshire markets:
I have worked in many markets including Brecon, Cardigan, Fishguard, Haverfordwest and Tenby, so I have seen many changes over the past 50 years, even working in 4 different markets in Carmarthen!
Carmarthen Deli Caerfyrddin by Albert Rees is famous for its Carmarthen Ham recipe that has been handed down from generation to generation, the Rees family legend being that when the Romans came to Wales, settling in Carmarthen, they stole to recipe and returned to Italy, renaming it Parma Ham!
Carmarthen Ham has become internationally recognised and praised, even being served in Royal Garden Parties. Chris commented: it has been a pleasure over the years to serve and get to know some wonderful people, even become friends with some! I have met King Charles, Queen Camilla & Princess Anne. I have been to No 10 Downing Street to show off our Carmarthen Ham.
Jason Jones, Carmarthenshire County Councils head of Regeneration said:
Chris and his family business is well recognised in Carmarthen, I congratulate him on 50 years of service and thank him for his presence in our markets.
Chris would like to take this opportunity to thank his loyal customers for their continued support.
