UPDATE - Ysgol Dyffryn Aman – Thursday, 25 April

Following yesterday's incident at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, Carmarthenshire County Council is continuing to support the school and assisting Dyfed Powys Police with their investigation.

Whilst the school is closed today (Thursday, 25 April) the school’s senior leadership team are prioritising the work of contacting all pupils and staff to check on their welfare.

Online lessons are being provided to pupils who wish to follow their ordinary learning timetable and the school has already communicated with examination boards to discuss any necessary alternative arrangements for learners taking exams.

Dyfed Powys Police has advised that they are likely to conclude their investigation at the school by the end of the day today (Thursday).

Acknowledging the time required to prepare the building in readiness for the return of pupils, the school, with the support of the County Council, has taken the decision to close the school to pupils tomorrow (Friday 26 April). Lessons will be available online.

Teachers and staff will be returning tomorrow to prepare the building, with the intention for the safe return of all pupils on Monday. Further communication will follow to confirm the school’s arrangements for Monday, 29 April.

Council Leader, Cllr. Darren Price said:

On behalf of Carmarthenshire County Council I would like to express our relief that the three injured individuals have been discharged from hospital and we wish them a speedy recovery.
Yesterday’s incident came as a great shock to everyone and I would like to recognise the excellent response of the staff and pupils at the school, Council staff and all emergency services involved.
I am humbled by the strength, resolve and determination by all involved to see our children return to their classrooms as soon as it is safe to do so.”
