Carmarthenshire Libraries Launch the "Marvellous Makers" Summer Reading Challenge
79 days ago
Carmarthenshire Libraries, in conjunction with the Reading Agency, are excited to announce the start of this year's Summer Reading Challenge, "Marvellous Makers." Running throughout the summer holidays, this engaging and free programme invites children aged 4 to 11 to celebrate creativity through reading.
From Saturday, 6 July, children can register for the challenge at any of the 18 Carmarthenshire Libraries. This year’s theme, “Marvellous Makers,” encourages children to dive into a world of creativity and imagination. Participants are tasked with reading six or more books, fostering a love for reading while unlocking their creative potential.
To join the Summer Reading Challenge, children must be library members. Registration is simple and can be done in person at your local library. Additionally, participants can track their progress online by visiting summerreadingchallenge.org.uk. As children complete each book, they can add it to their online profile, earning digital badges and online rewards. The platform also offers games, competitions, and the chance to share book recommendations.
Amazing prizes await those who complete the challenge, including theatre tickets, family passes to local leisure centres, and tickets to the Museum of Speed in Pendine. Each child who reaches their reading goal will receive a certificate and a medal, celebrating their achievement.
Hazel Evans, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture & Tourism, shared her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating:
The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for children to explore their creativity and develop a lifelong love of reading. We are thrilled to offer such exciting rewards and look forward to seeing our young readers engage with this year's 'Marvellous Makers' theme."
