Environmental Enforcement Officers join multi-agency day of action in Llanelli

On Wednesday 2 April, Carmarthenshire County Council’s (CCC) Environmental Enforcement Officers joined a multi-agency operation in Bynea, Llanelli, targeting illegal waste transport and non-compliance with environmental legislation.

The operation, led by Dyfed Powys Police, focused on individuals engaged in illegal waste transportation, and brought together several agencies, including Natural Resources Wales and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), working across two key locations in the Bynea area.

In an effort to clamp down on illegal waste activity, the Council’s Environmental Enforcement Officers concentrated on identifying individuals that were transporting waste without the required Waste Carrier Licences or proper documentation. Unlicensed waste carriers often contribute to problems such as fly-tipping, environmental pollution, and blight on our scenic county.

This collaborative effort highlights the importance of joint operations in disrupting criminal activity and protecting our communities and environment from harm.

Cllr Edward Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Infrastructure Services, said:

"This operation demonstrates our commitment to cracking down on environmental crime. By working in partnership with other enforcement agencies, we are sending a clear message that illegal waste transportation will not be tolerated. These actions are vital in protecting our environment and ensuring that legitimate businesses are not undercut by those who operate outside the law."
