Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet has agreed to move Ysgol Heol Goffa to a new site and increase its capacity to 150 at its meeting on Monday 2 November 2026.

The decision is subject to a statutory notice period, set to begin on Tuesday 17 November 2026 for a 28 day period, which gives parents, teachers, governors and the wider school community a further opportunity to have their say.

The new school will increase provision for pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) in the Llanelli area.  Additional work is already underway to meet the demand for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) pupils in Llanelli by alternative means.

This decision follows a previous Cabinet decision to develop a new school to increase capacity to meet the current projected demand following an independent review on specialist education in Llanelli and a formal consultation on the proposals.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Glynog Davies, said:

“Cabinet’s decision will enable more pupils in the Llanelli area with SLD and PMLD to receive specialist education by increasing capacity at Ysgol Heol Goffa.

The next step is for us to proceed to statutory notice, which, if agreed at Full Council, we can move forward with Ysgol Heol Goffa’s exciting new future.”
