National Empty Homes Grant Scheme

Funding available to bring empty homes back into use in Carmarthenshire

Carmarthenshire County Council are encouraging owners of long‑term empty properties to apply for funding through the Welsh Government’s National Empty Homes Grant Scheme, which aims to bring vacant homes back into use and support local housing needs.

The scheme offers grants of up to £25,000 to help renovate eligible empty homes, making them safe, energy‑efficient and ready for occupation. Carmarthenshire County Council is a participating local authority in the national scheme.

To be eligible for the grant, a property must have been empty for a minimum of 12 months, be registered as a domestic dwelling for council tax purposes, and be owned by the applicant, or in the process of being purchased, at the time of application. Successful applicants are required to occupy the property as their main residence for at least five years following the completion of the works.

Applications for the scheme will close on 30 September 2026, although Carmarthenshire County Council reserves the right to close applications earlier should demand be high or available funding be fully allocated. All approved works funded through the scheme must be completed by 30 September 2027.

All applications must be submitted directly through the Welsh Government’s online application portal, which is delivered on its behalf by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.

Residents interested in bringing an empty property back into use are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to improve housing availability across Carmarthenshire.
