Flood warnings
There are flood warnings in place:
- River Teifi at Lampeter
- River Towy, isolated properties between Llandeilo and Abergwili
- River Cothi at low lying areas – Pontargothi and Pontynyswen

Home Care service update
Our Home Care team are continuing to care for service users throughout the county.
However, some are impacted due to the challenging conditions our carers are facing due to Storm Darragh. All service users are being contacted and kept informed as the situation develops.
Services update 10am
Conditions remain challenging across the county due to strong winds and rain brought by Storm Darragh.
Leisure centres, libraries, recycling centres and other services remain closed. Please check before you travel.
Public Transport
Due to the anticipated heavy rain and strong winds associated with Storm Darragh all public transport has been cancelled from tonight until tomorrow, Saturday 7 December until approximately 2pm . Please check your journey before you travel.
We will also be updating our social media pages and website with updates.
Outdoor markets
Carmarthenshire outdoor markets in Ammanford, Llanelli and Carmarthen will not take place due to Storm Darragh.
Normal opening times will remain for the Indoor markets.
100% Sir Gâr Christmas Pop Up Shops
All 100% Sir Gâr Christmas Pop Up Shops and Christmas Cabins will be closed tomorrow, Saturday 7 December in Ammanford, Llanelli and Carmarthen.
They will be back open on Wednesday 11 December.
Hwb Bach Y Wlad
Hwb Bach Y Wlad will not be attending events this weekend.
The team were scheduled to attend Llanybydder Christmas Fair on Saturday 7 December and Whitland Winter Wonderland on Sunday 8 December, please check with the organisers to see if the events are still taking place.
Parks
Due to Storm Darragh Pembrey Country Park will be closed from 8pm tonight and Parc Howard, Llyn Llech Owain Country Park and Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park from 6pm.
We will re-open on Sunday at approximately 10am following a safety inspection.
Leisure facilities
All our leisure centres, libraries, museums and theatres will be closed tomorrow, Saturday 7 December. The facilities will re-open when it is safe to do so.
Recycling centres
All household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) and Canolfan Eto, Nantycaws will remain closed tomorrow (Sunday 8 December) due to weather conditions.
Storm Darragh
Carmarthenshire County Council is urging residents to be prepared as Storm Darragh hits Wales in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
The Met Office has issued a red warning of wind which is likely to cause significant disruption across the country.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s operational team are on standby to deal with any eventuality and will respond to the changing weather conditions.
People are being urged to check the Met Office and Natural Resources Wales websites for weather updates or call the Floodline 0345 988 1188 if you are concerned about flooding.

Red weather warning for wind
The Met Office has issued a Red Weather Warning for very strong winds from 03:00 on Saturday, 7 December 2024 until 11:00 on Saturday, 7 December.
A period of extremely strong winds will develop during the early hours of Saturday morning as Storm Darragh moves across the Irish Sea. Gusts of 90 mph or more are possible over coasts and hills of west and south Wales, as well as funnelling through the Bristol Channel with some very large waves on exposed beaches.
The strongest winds will begin to ease from late morning, though it will remain very windy with Amber wind warnings still in force until the evening.
Amber weather warning for wind
The wind warning has been upgraded to Amber from 01:00 on Saturday, 7 December 2024 until 21:00 on Saturday, 7 December 2024.
A period of very strong northerly or north westerly winds is likely to develop during Saturday as Storm Darragh moves from west to east. Gusts of 70 to 80 mph are likely around exposed coasts and headlands, where some very large waves are likely, whilst gusts of 60 to 70 mph are likely inland. The strongest winds will ease from the west through the afternoon.
